Chief of Party, PMI Shinda (DEFEAT) Malaria program

Dr. Dunstan Bishanga serves as the Chief of Party for the PMI/USAID-funded Shinda Malaria program, a collaborative initiative implemented by Ifakara Health Institute and partners. With over ten years of specialized experience in service delivery and management, he provides strategic guidance, and technical and management leadership to the Shinda Malaria Project.

As a thought leader and PMD Pro-certified public health systems management expert, Dr. Bishanga has a wealth of experience in managing and implementing large-scale, integrated health projects, studies, and operations across diverse health disciplines. His portfolio includes providing technical leadership and operations management to programs addressing maternal, newborn, and child health, family planning, malaria, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, youth, and gender issues.

Dr. Bishanga is a seasoned leader in the health discipline with training and experiential learning in various leadership and management skills. He has held leadership roles and successfully led complex health projects within notable organizations such as Jhpiego, EngenderHealth, Mariestopes and FHI360. His expertise extends to conducting human subjects research for over a decade, evident through his contributions to over 13 scientific publications, including as a lead author.

Dr. Bishanga’s multifaceted skill set extends to business development, resource mobilization, and proposal writing. He is adept at public health promotion and community engagement strategies, facilitating meaningful change. His proficiency in budgeting and financial management, human resource management and development, networking, negotiation, and partnership management, gender analysis and programming, training and transformative capacity building, coaching and mentoring, further underscores his leadership acumen.
