Laboratory Technician

Francis is an experienced laboratory technician at Ifakara Health Institute specializing in mosquito analysis and malaria-related projects.  Prior to joining the Institute in 2008, he gained valuable experience as a volunteer starting in 2006, actively participating in various activities that involved analyzing mosquito samples under multiple projects within the Institute.

In his role as a laboratory technician, Francis plays a pivotal part in analyzing mosquito samples from various malaria-related projects, both internal and external to the institute. His role involves identifying primary and secondary malaria vectors, conducting molecular detection of plasmodium sporozoites using Elisa techniques, and investigating host feeding preferences of mosquitoes, analyzing malaria blood slides, stool slides, urine slides, and FBP (Full Blood Picture), all of which contribute substantially to malaria research and control initiatives.

With a background in laboratory assistance and extensive hands-on experience, Francis has contributed significantly to several malaria research and projects aimed at combatting malaria transmissions. He has played a key role in performing mosquito analysis under prominent projects such as FCT, MTC, ATD, PMC, ITB, MARSH, TRANSMISSION MALARIA, STAR HOME, PREMINITION, and DISTRIC ENTOMOLOGIST.

Francis holds a certificate in Laboratory Assistance obtained from the Mafinga Medical Laboratory Institute.
