Seasoned research scientist in tuberculosis

Beno Huglin Mbeya is a Research Scientist at the Ifakara Health Institute since 2013, within this role, Beno has been instrumental in various projects aimed at combating tuberculosis, serving as Principal Investigator for trials such as Optirimox TB, STEP 2C, DECODE TB, and as a CO-Principal Investigator for the SUDOCU TB trial.

He possesses a rich academic background and extensive professional experience in the field of public health. He holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Muhimbili University, which he obtained between 2007 and 2012. 

Building upon this foundation, Beno pursued further studies, completing a Master of Science in Public Health at the University of Dar es Salaam from 2019 to 2022. Prior to this, he acquired a Master of Business Administration from the same institution, demonstrating his interdisciplinary approach to healthcare management.

Continuing his academic journey, Beno is currently engaged in a PhD program in Public Health at the Central University of Nicaragua, expected to conclude in 2026. 

Beno extends his expertise as a Consultant Pulmonologist. He collaborates with esteemed organizations such as the Medical Association of Tanzania, TB Net consortium, and various groups within the Trial Methodology Research Partnership (TMRP)/NIHR in the UK. Beno's contributions span diverse areas including outcome assessment, health informatics, and stratified medicine.
