Abdallah Bakari Mkopi is a distinguished Research Scientist based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a profound expertise in epidemiology and public health research.
His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, where his doctoral thesis focused on the implementation of patient-centered tuberculosis treatment in Tanzania. Prior to his Ph.D., Abdallah earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Applied Microbiology with Chemistry from the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
With over two decades of experience, Abdallah possesses a diverse skill set in monitoring and evaluation of EPI/TB/HIV-related research, health systems research, data analysis, systematic review, and project management. He is particularly adept at developing research proposals, coordinating implementation, and disseminating findings.
Abdallah's commitment to advancing public health extends beyond research to teaching and mentorship. He serves as a lecturer at the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology, Tanzania, where he educates and supervises MSc students in Public Health Research.
Throughout his career, Abdallah has been actively involved in numerous research projects and collaborations, including roles as a Scientist and Senior Scientist at the Ifakara Health Institute (IHI). His contributions range from field coordination and supervision to data analysis and principal investigation. Notably, he has served as a Co-Investigator on projects evaluating community health interventions, antiretroviral therapy retention, and clinical decision support algorithms.
In addition to his research endeavors, Abdallah is dedicated to ethical research practices and currently serves as a member of the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NaTHREC).
