WORKSHOP: Ifakara supports evidence based national health care improvements
Ifakara Health Institute continues to contribute to the improvement of healthcare in Tanzania. Commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO), Ifakara has been providing technical support to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the President's Office, Regional Administration, and Local Government Tanzania (PO-RALG) in the process of updating the National Essential Healthcare Intervention Package (NEHCIP).
The initiative aims to assess the implementation of the current NEHCIP and propose an updated package of essential health interventions applicable across various levels of healthcare, from household to national levels. This effort is vital to ensuring that health interventions are effectively tailored to the needs of the Tanzanian population, enhancing the overall quality and equity of healthcare services.
To kick off the evidence-based prioritization phase, a two-day workshop was held from August 29-30, 2024, in Morogoro. This workshop brought together health service experts from WHO, MoH, PORALG, and healthcare workers. The workshop focused on developing a candidate list of health interventions that are relevant to the Tanzanian context. This marks the beginning of a comprehensive process that will include a series of workshops and consultations. The goal is to ensure that NEHCIP reflects relevant and prioritized health interventions, leaving no one behind.
The IHI team of consultants includes Dr Sally Mtenga, Dr Getrud Mollel, and Dr Peter Binyaruka.
