BLOG: Ifakara scientist featured on WHO blog on health financing
The Ifakara Health Institute’s Dr. Peter Binyaruka was featured by the World Health Organization in a Montreux Collaborative blog, highlighting Tanzania’s innovative approach to public financial management (PFM) and health financing. The blog was published on November 7, 2025.
The Montreux Collaborative, convened by WHO in 2014, is a global platform that brings together countries, development partners, and experts to improve health budgeting and financing. Its goal is to generate and share evidence on making health budgets more agile, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the health sector, contributing to progress toward universal health coverage (UHC).
In the blog, Dr. Binyaruka discusses how digital systems in Tanzania are transforming the way health resources are planned, managed, and spent at the local level. Platforms like PlanRep and FFARS enable health facilities to plan budgets, track expenditures, and improve transparency and accountability—ensuring that resources reach the communities that need them most.
